A Bit About Laura

Laura Taylor grew up in the rural county of Sussex, VA. She did not live near a neighborhood swimming pool. The closet skating rink and shopping mall were about 30 miles away. Playtime required creativity. Laura and her younger sister loved to ride their bikes, pretend they were TV detectives, and perform in their own musical concerts. Her favorite childhood activity was playing school with her sister and friends at the picnic table in her backyard. She was always the teacher.

Laura’s love of teaching and learning continued throughout her educational career. Her parents valued education; even though neither of them graduated from high school. They instilled the importance of education in their three daughters. As such, Laura was an exceptional student. She graduated from high school with honors and went on to get her undergraduate degree. As an adult learner, she got her master’s degree in teaching and a doctorate degree in educational leadership.

Laura loves inspiring others to be lifelong learners. She taught elementary school for thirteen years for Chesterfield County Public Schools and was an adjunct instructor at Reynolds Community College in Richmond, VA. Laura is a co-owner of a community services agency with locations in Richmond and Fredericksburg, VA. She works with her husband in ministry and administers an after-school tutoring program for elementary students. In her leisure, Laura enjoys traveling, spending time with her family, and walking with her husband through their neighborhood.
